OpenAI-compatible function calling only accepts ^[a-zA-Z0-9_-]{1,64}$. Dots and names over 64 characters get renamed or dropped.
116 of 15,384 reachable MCP servers (0.8%) have this issue today.
Many agents and gateways are built on OpenAI-style tool calling even when the model is not OpenAI's. A name like files.read or a 70-character name is rewritten (breaking your docs and examples) or the tool is silently omitted.
